- The Venturi scrubber consists of a constricted section in the gas flow path. This constriction increases the velocity of the gas stream.
- Downstream of the constriction, there is a throat section where the gas velocity decreases. This change in velocity creates a pressure drop.
- A scrubbing liquid, often water or a chemical solution, is injected into the Venturi scrubber. The liquid can be introduced at various points, such as at the throat or through nozzles.
- The high-velocity gas stream creates turbulence, promoting intimate contact between the gas and the scrubbing liquid. This facilitates the capture of particulate matter and the absorption or neutralization of gaseous pollutants.
- Particulate matter in the gas stream is captured as it comes into contact with the liquid droplets. The captured particles are then carried by the liquid to the collection system.
- Gaseous pollutants are absorbed or chemically reacted with the scrubbing liquid. The efficiency of gaseous pollutant removal depends on factors such as liquid-to-gas ratio and the chemical properties of the pollutants.
- Downstream of the throat, a mist eliminator or demister is often incorporated to separate liquid droplets from the cleaned gas stream before it exits the scrubber.
